Maybe you’re finding it a bit odd for us to start your Strength Faction journey off with a lesson on breathing, . But as you’ll see, this sets us up for EVERYTHING that we do. The information delivered here will be frequently mentioned throughout the rest of today’s lessons on hinging, squatting, pushing, pulling, lunging, etc…
The main point of this lesson is to grasp a BASIC understanding of how to use breathing, to set posture, so that we can properly use our core throughout everything that we do.
Some of us, as well as our clients, hang out in a “scissor posture” on the regular. The name simply refers to the fact that the ribs are expanded up and out, and the hips are positioned downward into an anterior tilt, like an open set of scissors. From now on we will refer to this posture as macho man. Macho Man looks like this:

Our goal is to get them in to a “tall and tight” position. Tall and tight refers to ribs back, down, and in, as well as hips near neutral. Essentially the ribs face the hips, and the hips face the ribs. It looks like this:

What to do now
Take 10-15 minutes and go through different positions, practicing breathing in the manner that we presented. Take note of whether or not you feel challenged in certain positions, find it hard to move from a tall and tight posture, and anything else that comes to your attention. Be sure to ask any and all questions on the Facebook thread pertaining to today’s lessons!
A man stopped breathing today at a bar…
A lady then screamed out “ANYBODY KNOW CPR??!”
In 2010, two dudes Chris and Todd, started the business that would eventually become Strength Faction.
You know how they say the rest is history? Well, it’s not.
